It’s that time of year! Birds are singing, flowers are blooming, bees are buzzing and the Friends of Noe Valley is holding its annual garden tour!

The 7th annual Friends of Noe Valley Garden Tour is taking place on Saturday, May 11th from 10am to 4pm. Twelve private gardens are open that day for you to see. Geographically, they range from 20th Street on the north to 30th Street on the south. Visually, they include almost any kind of garden you’d want to see, from a jewel box garden of succulents and leafy perennials to an elegantly contemporary backyard oasis, to a sunlit garden with a large koi pond. This year sidewalk gardens will be featured along the way between the private gardens! A new Garden Tour activity will be container gardening demonstrations all day, 10am to 4pm, at the Noe Valley Library on Jersey between Castro and Diamond.

Tickets are just $15 if you’re under 65, $12 if you aren’t. Tickets are being sold at the Farmers Market on 24th Street on Saturday, May 4th and also on the day of the Garden Tour, Saturday, May 11th from 8:30am until 1pm. If you miss us there you can pick up tickets at Cliché Noe Gifts, Independent Nature Garden Store, Just For Fun, Olive This Olive That, Omnivore Books on Food, Phoenix Books, Small Frys, Taylors Home & Garden, Video Wave and Wink Gifts and Cards

Tickets come with a map and guide to help you navigate from garden to garden.

A donation from the Garden Tour proceeds is made each year towards neighborhood beautification projects. This year the beneficiary is the garden at the Noe Valley Library on Jersey, a garden oasis everyone can enjoy.

So buy your tickets, lace up your walking shoes and get ready for flowery, ferny, fibrous fun on Saturday, May 11th. Everyone who checks in at all 12 gardens gets to vote for Noe’s Favorite Garden. And, if you’re not into walking, a free shuttle van will toodle from garden to garden, once again thanks to the Noe Valley Association and Noe Valley Merchants & Professionals for providing the shuttle.

Community Meeting for Noe Courts Playground

The Recreation and Park Department invites you to participate in the first community meeting to discuss future capital improvements for Noe Courts Playground, located at 24th and Douglass Streets. Your input is very important. Everyone is invited to attend.

Noe Valley Town Square Receives Unanimous Support From SF Rec & Park Commission
From Residents for Noe Valley Town Square

The SF Rec and Park Commission unanimously voted today (4/18) to recommend the purchase of the Noe Valley Town Square to the Board of Supervisors! A HUGE SHOUT OUT TO THE APPROXIMATELY 20 NOE VALLEY RESIDENTS WHO SPOKE IN SUPPORT OF THE TOWN SQUARE TODAY.The recommendation from the Rec and Park Commission is for the Board of Supervisors to approve $4,242,500 from the Open Space Fund for the purchase and remediation of the Noe Valley Ministry Parking lot (Noe Valley Ministry would receive $3.9 million and the additional $342,500 would be used for remediation of the lot since it used to be a gas station.)

Earlier in the week, Supervisor Wiener introduced legislation that will allow the Board of Supervisors to act upon the Rec and Park Commission’s recommendation – namely, purchase the Noe Valley Town Square! Next on the calender for the Town Square is the Board of Supervisor’s Budget and Finance Subcommittee on Wednesday, May 22nd. And then a final vote by the full Board of Supervisors on June 4th.

In other news, RNVTS submitted its concept proposal for a Prop 84 Urban Greening Grant from the State of California. The concept proposal requests $722,916.00 for development of the Town Square. Rec and Park staff took the lead on this concept proposal and did an amazing job. That’s all the news for now.
